Set out 45 minutes to write. Now, everyone go get an apple. Put it somewhere some deliberate distance from you. How close or far away the apple is from you will affect what you write in this still/life exercise.
Things you can write about it:
The visual field between you and the apple.
What the apple obscures.
What forces are acting upon the apple?
What colors do you see in the apple? If you move it, rotate it half an inch, what changes?
What forces could act upon the apple? Being eating, being thrown, being brought in a bucket to a state fair for kids to bob? Imagine the scene and describe it broadly, or describe the effects of the on the apple, or from the apple’s perspective.
Absolutely anything else inspired by the departure point of this activity—what it felt like to rise, pry open the refrigerator door, make a choice between pink and green, extend your torso down like a giant, to hold the hard cold body of this once-living, live-giving thing, to put it in its place.
Have as much fun as you possibly can! Be
