prompt 050
the turn
Write about something small you learned that changed something big in your life.
*
Tell us the experience of learning—was it one of the sudden understandings, when we’re struck with having been wrong until this moment, ceramic breaking on the floor of the mind? Or a little secret glimpsed through a door ajar? Or was it an intended, sought-after learning, an equation sweated through until the thing was known or mastered? And what did it mean to memorize that little mark? Tell how much, or how little, you remember of the moment of learning. Avoid cliches of inspiration. Then write about what that changed in your life. That might be a narrative unfolding of how the small tear in reality became a new reality altogether, or focus on explaining, prose-forward, the impact of the small thing.
